AEA was asked by the Committee on Climate Change (CCC) to prepare a report on the opportunities for greenhouse gas abatement in six large industry sectors in advance of its fourth carbon budget recommendations, issued on 7 December 2010.
The report, titled ‘Analysing the opportunities for abatement in major emitting industrial sectors’, looked at the more radical opportunities for abatement of CO2 from these sectors, including wholesale changes in production processes, the adoption of technologies currently under development, fuel switching (especially towards electricity), demand reduction and the use of products with a lower carbon footprint. The work is being used by the CCC to inform the process by which they advise the Government on the setting of carbon budgets for the fourth budget period, 2023-2027.
The full report can be found on the website of the Committee on Climate Change or downloaded here.
